Rhode Island consists of 5 counties, each with their own trial courts. The Superior Courts handle all felony criminal cases and civil cases involving damages in excess of $5,000 and it also handles the appeals from lower trial courts. Any further appellate review is handled by Rhode Island Supreme Court.
